When Mace started a project to redevelop the communal spaces of the University of Reading, they needed to gather information about how students used these areas and how they travel through them. They needed a gather a lot of data – quickly. This is when they turned to a trusted partner – Time-lapse Solutions. We not only set-up time-lapse cameras to cover the main public areas but also set-up people counting. This means that would have a visual representation of traffic flows and hard data to back it up. Each camera counts people in four different areas and sends the information to our server where both Mace and the University of Reading can interrogate it in real time. Reports includes total numbers for each area by data and time as well as traffic flows through the University. This is no small matter but this important data informed a major redevelopment of the University.
